Breastscreen Queensland's mobile van is extending its current stay in Gladstone.

Breastscreen stay extended
Local ladies over 40 years old still have time to book a mammogram at the mobile breast screening unit currently stationed in Gladstone.

The mobile van, parked near the Western Suburbs pool off Glenlyon Road, was due to leave town in early December but due to strong demand the service has been extended to the 19th of December.

Gaylene Weir from Breastscreen Qld's base in Rockhampton said the mobile van had been stationed in Gladstone for a few months and was operated by two radiographers.

"The Gladstone community is making good use of this free service and bookings have been constant," Ms Weir said. "We really urge women over 40, particularly those aged 50-69, to have mammograms every two years."

"This mobile van services the Central Queensland region and visits various communities on a rotational basis for up to 12 weeks at a time."

With a waiting list of up to three weeks Ms Weir said bookings were essential and appointments took about half an hour.

"While some doctors recommend women to this service, no medical referral is needed for this service."

Call Breastscreen Qld today on 13 20 50.
