| Successful year for BTABC |
|
The successful launch of a regular arts, music and food fest at Tannum and the establishment of a heritage group with the planned publication of a book on the early lives of a number of Boyne Tannum residents are among this year’s achievements for the Boyne Tannum Arts, Business and Community Association. President Maxine Brushe listed the projects at the group’s third annual general meeting recently. “The 2009-10 year has been highly successful with numerous projects undertaken to benefit our community,” she said. Set up to promote the development and interests of the coastal community, BTABC represents a wide range of local groups from dance and arts to culture and business. “BTABC owns and operates the hall with regular bookings by a variety of dance classes, indoor bowls, a church group, meetings and an occasional small birthday or wedding celebration,” Maxine said. “This adds up to an average of 32 hours per week of use so there is still significant room for further bookings.” Hall renovations, the establishment of public sculptures and the need for a community pool and electronic noticeboard are on the agenda for the coming year, along with plans to celebrate 60 years since Tannum Sands was proclaimed as a place in the Government Gazette on April 14, 1951. Maxine said the popular Beach, Arts, Music event had finally come to fruition after being suggested at the group’s first meeting. “After discovering an informal group of energetic younger people were trying to deliver the same event, we joined forces and now the community is reaping the benefits,” she said. “The crowds will continue to grow.” |
